How to buy

Before you bid…

Before even attending an auction, decide what vehicle you would like to buy and set a budget (don’t forget about VAT, which is always added to the price).  Then, attend an auction as an observer to see firsthand what happens and, if necessary, ask members of the auction house staff for guidance.  Once you are comfortable with how it all works, come to an auction and bid on your dream car.  But even before the auction starts, take a good look at all the vehicles and thoroughly inspect those that interest you.

How do I know what’s on Auction?

All auctioneers will produce a catalogue describing the vehicles to be auctioned. Once you have obtained one of these, you will know what vehicles are going through the sale and in what order. Like all things in life, the catalogue is subject to late changes and vehicles may be added or withdrawn during the course of the sale. Catalogues are issued for guidance only and you should inspect the vehicle thoroughly if you wish to purchase it.

Where can I see the cars?

They will be on display at the auction centre.Once you have your catalogue, ewe suggest that you take it with you to examine the vehicles on the line-up before they go on auction. You should try to find two or three of the type of vehicle you are interested in so that you have a choice.

Can I test drive a selection of cars?

No. Auction houses operate differently to dealers, in that you cannot test drive vehicles before the actual auction. For peace of mind, though, you will see that vehicles are started up during the actual auction.

Are the prices attractive?

Generally, yes! We sell at wholesale prices and as a consumer, you often end up bidding against dealers who will buy the car, and then add on a mark-up before selling it at retail process. So you should get great deal. But remember to compare prices and do your homework before bidding on any vehicle.

Who can Bid?

Anyone – as long as you have registered as a buyer. This is a quick and simple process. Before the auction starts, you register as a buyer by paying a refundable deposit in the form of a bank guaranteed cheque or cash. You will then receive a number which will enable you to participate in the auction process.

How do I Bid?

When you are in the auction hall and bidding, make your bids clear by raising your bidding number, and be certain that the auctioneer has seen your bid. The auctioneer will guide the bidding by indicating what price he is looking or. For instance, he will say: “I have R5 000. Do I see R5 500?” If you wish to bid, all you need to do is raise your hand. If the price goes beyond what you are prepared to pay, stop putting up your hand.

Can I obtain help during the Auction?

Of course! There are always auctioneers and other members of staff who will be happy to assist you with bidding and guide you through the auction process.

Voetstoots Applies

Remember that vehicles are sold voetstoots – and plan accordingly. When you buy something voetstoots you buy it “as it stands”, with its advantages and disadvantages.

How can I pay?

Auctioneers accept an electronic transfer, bank guaranteed cheque, or a release note from a reputable financial institution.

Can I obtain Finance?

Of course! That’s why you visited our site!! Ensure that this is organised well in advance.

Must I pay VAT?

Yes. All used cars are subject to Value Added Tax (VAT), which is added to the hammer price before payment is made. So, VAT is added to the agreed bid.

What about the roadworthy certificate?

It is the responsibility of the buyer to organise his or her own roadworthy certificate.
